The Society

The North Okanagan Youth Resources Society was formed in 1974 by a group of concerned civic leaders. The society has since changed it name to North Okanagan Youth and Family Services Society (1991). The object of the society at that time was to provide support, care and encouragement to youth and their families experiencing problems and unable to live in harmony.

With the help of the Social Planning Council a board comprising individuals from health, education, business and government promoted the formation of Mara House residential services. The non residential services evolved in response to other needs and reflect the ongoing commitment of the Society to the needs of Vernon and area.
